BIOTECHNOLOGY
M.Sc. BIOTECHNOLOGY
M.Sc. Biotechnology is a new scientific multi-disciplinary professional course that trains and updates scientific knowledge and skills required for a research fellow in Bio-Science. It provides knowledge of major disciplines such as Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.
Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is an integral part of Biotechnology which supports research and development in many areas including medical diagnostics, pathology, genetic engineering and biological data acquisition. It uses computer technology for processing and storing biological information to diagnose diseases and discover new drugs.
Microbiology
Microbiology is considered the backbone of all biological sciences. It is an integrated study of natural biosciences and occupies a key place in Biotechnology. This field has expanded rapidly in teaching, research and industrial applications.
Biochemistry
Biochemistry is the heart of life science and a fundamental subject of Biotechnology. The syllabus is designed to provide degree-level studies with an up-to-date and balanced account of chemical and biological fundamentals.
Biochemistry deals with the elucidation of biochemical processes, responsible for the chemical composition and changes occurring in living organisms and their environment.
Molecular Biology
The application of Molecular Biology principles has provided new directions to Biotechnology. The study of Molecular Biology has contributed significantly to developments in:
- Virology
- Immunology
- Animal Cloning
- Cell Culture Technology
- Hormone Production
- Antibody Production
- Enzyme Technology
- Vaccine Development
- Bioprocess Engineering
- DNA Replication Studies
The M.Sc. Biotechnology programme combines all these disciplines together along with other relevant subjects, making it highly valuable for academic, research and industrial applications.
